Man Utd: Solskjaer given conditions to get new contract

Published

on

Manchester United will wait until the end of this season before opening contract talks with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the UK Sun reports.

United is currently second in the Premier League, five points behind rivals and table-toppers Manchester City.

They are also in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they face West Ham and last-32 of the Europa League as well as Real Sociedad.

It has been a fairly impressive season, but club chiefs want Solskjaer to keep up the title charge and secure Champions League football before they think about offering him a new contract.

Solskjaer has 16 months left on his current deal and could be handed a new two-year contract, depending on how the season ends.

Despite United sitting second in the league after the halfway stage, there are still question marks over Solskjaer’s managerial credentials.

Arsenal striker, Alexandre Lacazette, has wasted little time in staking his claim to take Mesut Ozil’s soon-to-be-vacant No.10 shirt.

Lacazette, writing on his Instagram stories, promised Ozil his jersey “will be in good care”.

Ozil is set to sign for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish giants appearing to announce an unusual no 67 shirt number for him.

The French striker took to Instagram to post a picture of him and Aubameyang pointing at each other, writing: “When you both want the number 10.”

Responding to the post, Arsenal captain Aubameyang wrote:

“They said they put it away. All yours my bro,” accompanying his note with a number of laughing emojis.

Aubameyang will continue wearing Arsenal’s iconic No.14 jersey, which was famously worn by club legend Thierry Henry.

But Lacazette is keen to switch from No.9 to No.10., having donned the latter for much of his Lyon career before moving to the Emirates in a £46.5million deal in 2017.

EPL: Lampard speaks on getting ‘sacked’ at Chelsea after 3-1 defeat to Man City

Published

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has insisted he is “unconcerned,” by speculation surrounding his future at the club and his only focus is turning around their slump.

The Blues have now won only one of their last seven matches in all competitions, after losing 3-1 to Manchester City on Sunday.

Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne all scored in the first half at Stamford Bridge, to hand the former champions complete domination of the game.

Chelsea have now slipped to 8th place in the table, with reports emerging claiming the club is considering firing Lampard if the team’s poor performances continue.

When asked about the mounting pressure on him, Lampard said: “I’m not concerned on that point.

“I expected periods of difficulty this year. I said it when we beat Leeds and everyone was championing us to be title contenders. I know that it doesn’t come that easy, I know where we’re at.

“Whether it puts pressure on me is regardless. Because a month ago, everyone was asking when I would sign a new contract, and now people will be saying different things because over a tight, busy period, we’ve lost four games of football.”
